My goodness, I was so hoping our young people would realize that hard-line politics aren't very productive ("Humans are people, too," The Firing Line, Aug. 8). The real work gets done when the pendulum is in the middle. I don't know who writes the scripts for being conservative or liberal, but come on, folks - we have brains, let's use them.

Shifting the blame Following my time on the 40 Acres, I moved only as far as the adjacent 40 acres, across MLK Jr Boulevard. I can see Heath Cleveland's dreaded Guadalupe Garage from my window ("Safer lots for students," Aug. 13) and yes, we're in an urban center.

UH prides itself on the diversity of its campus, and rightly so. From the beautiful colors of cultural clothing, to the numerous ethnic, religious and student groups to join, our campus is an eclectic one. Within this diverse environment are very diverse people, including students attending class full-time while holding two jobs, married students and parents returning to school to better themselves and the lives of their children.
