The results are in, and it looks like a great year is in store for the University of Houston-Victoria.

Elections for the 2008-2009 Student Senate were held April 29-30, with the results in on May 1.

The president is Kristen Lindley, the vice president is Juan Diego Martinez, the secretary is Nicole M. Garcia, and the treasurer is Melissa Romanowski.

The senators at large for Victoria are Whitney Damborsky, Jerico Erik Garino and Ashley Falco.

The undergraduate senator of the School of Arts & Sciences is Crystal Mapp, and the graduate senator is Sheila C. Jaure.

The undergraduate senator of the School of Business Administration is Valerie Kemp, and the graduate senator is Shauna Sullivan.

The undergraduate senator of the School of Education & Human Development is Amber Scott and there was no applicant for the graduate senator position.

Tentatively, officers will be inducted May 23.

Garcia, the Student Senate's new secretary, is working towards her bachelor's in interdisciplinary studies. This is her first time running for secretary.

"We hope to get the Senate involved in student organizations around the university, and we also hope to hold up to the standards that the current Senate has formed and continue to build on the strength of the organization," Garcia said.

"The upcoming semester will have filled positions," Garcia said. And she attributes this to more support and communication from the university.

Lindley, the new president, was the undergraduate senator of the School of Business Administration last semester. She will be receiving her bachelor's in accounting next spring.

"It has been an experience to see students who can have a say and make a difference; already, there are many more positions filled, so voices will be heard," Lindley said.

There could be a change of vision at the university, Lindley says.

"The ages of the members of the senate are younger, and this may go well with the expansion. We'll be able to see what the younger students' needs are," she said.

Janet Foerster, despite being new to her position as a Student Services Generalist, has been a great help to the Student Senate, and helped organize and run the election.
